Hort Innovation: commercial license for novelty pink and white strawberry varieties

Opportunity for

  • A suitably qualified, experienced and capable partner (such as peak industry bodies, nurseries, variety management companies) for the commercial licence for novelty pink and white strawberry varieties.

Opportunity Description

Industry challenge: The Hort Innovation Strawberry Levy Fund and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Queensland have previously invested in a series of research and development investments aimed at the development of new and innovative strawberry varieties for Australian growers. The pink and white varieties available for licensing are generated from these investments. These have been selected for commercialisation from several stages of research and in-field semi-commercial trials.

Current opportunity: A licence to grow, propagate and sell fruit from these novelty pink and white strawberry varieties will be offered on an exclusivity basis for the whole of Australia for a term of five (5) years. A non-exclusive licence to sell fruit outside of Australia to facilitate export for a term of five (5) years is also offered.

The licensee will have the rights of first refusal for an additional term of five (5) years that will be offered subject to performance review by owners of the intellectual property.

Identification of a suitable commercial partner to:

  • facilitate, manage and support the commercialisation of novelty pink and white strawberry varieties
  • expand the strawberry category by supporting the development of a new range of novelty strawberry varieties to support grower profitability
  • market and promote the new novelty pink and white varieties to consumers.

Hort Innovation has prepared an Expressions of Interest (EOI) document that provides background information, outlines the scope of services, the procurement process and the information required from interested parties.
