Blockchain traceability

Opportunity for

  • Blockchain or traceability companies interested in new products and services
  • Export services companies interested in new products and services

Opportunity description

Industry Challenge: Blockchain solutions are of increasing interest across agricultural production systems. Tea tree oil is particularly vulnerable to a lack of a traceability system with low quality and modified products often being sold as tea tree oil in international markets. As a high value product, it is important that consumer safety and confidence is maintained in an Australian tea tree oil product.

Current opportunity: AgriFutures Australia, the Australian Tea Tree Industry Association (ATTIA) and Geora have developed and tested a prototype traceability system in conjunction with producers, traders and overseas manufacturers. An opportunity exists for traceability or export services companies interested in working with the Australian Tea Tree Industry to further develop the solution for Australian and international markets.

Other opportunities: While blockchain solutions are being developed for a number of larger agricultural industries, opportunities exist to expand the solution into other smaller volume, high value production systems.
