The aim of this project is to develop management strategies that irrigated, rain-dependent vineyards can apply during a drought to minimise the loss of yield and grape quality. This involves better understanding of vine and cover crop water use.

The nutritional health of winegrape vines is usually measured through testing the plant petiole, the stalk that attaches a leaf to the plant stem, but results can take time to generate and may not be highly accurate. This project will develop a smartphone app to capture and analyse images of vine leaves, to rapidly assess nutritional status.
