New app to stop little cotton pests flying under the radar

Near impossible to identify and count with the naked eye, silverleaf whitefly has increased in prevalence in recent years.

 

To make identification easier, University of Southern Queensland researchers Dr Alison McCarthy and Dr Derek Long, in collaboration with Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries researcher Dr Paul Grundy, are developing a new artificial intelligence smartphone app with funding from the Cotton Research and Development Corporation.

Grazing Intelligence

This project aims to help producers make better grazing decisions . Food Agility, together with the NSW Department of Primary Industries and agtech company Pasture.io, will deliver machine learning models that remotely predicts animal performance and daily pasture availability. These ‘Grazing Intelligence’ models will improve the confidence of producers in making grazing and livestock value-adding decisions. They will provide clear animal performance recommendations and projections through the Pasture.io software.
