A review of fisheries enhancement methods to promote profitability and sustainability in Australian fisheries

This project aims to increase the uptake of fisheries enhancement, the release of fish bred in aquaculture into the ocean to enhance Australian marine fisheries, by consolidating clear comparative data on the costs and benefits of each approach and how they can be most effectively applied in different scenarios. A decision support tool will be developed to enable managers to readily incorporate these approaches with other fishery management considerations.

Non-Market Impact Valuation for Fisheries RD&E (Phase I)

Most environmental goods and services, such as clean air and water and healthy fish and wildlife populations, are not traded in markets, so they are given a non-market valuation. This project developed a database of relevant non-market valuation studies of the environmental and social impacts of fisheries RD&E, that can be used to inform future impact assessments and potentially, willingness-to-pay studies.

Healthcheck Phase 2

Australian fisheries are recognized as world leaders in research and management, yet that message is still not being heard by many Australians, potentially impacting support for this industry. This project continued the development of a reporting framework for transparently, independently and comprehensively reporting on the progress of Australian fisheries across a range of issues, to act as a companion to the Status of Australian Fish Stocks report (SAFS) and meet increasing community expectations about the social and environmental performance of fisheries.
