Australian Eggs is the Research and Development Corporation (RDC) for Australia’s egg industry and invests in marketing, research, development, and extension (RD&E) to support egg producers and ensure a sustainable and profitable egg supply chain.
All known Australian egg farmers are serviced by Australian Eggs, irrespective of their size, location or farming system.
Funding
- Funded through the egg levy and laying chickens levy, and
- R&D matching is provided by the Australian Government through the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
Strategic priorities
Australian Eggs invests in research and projects that align with their strategic priorities and annual operating plan. These priorities listed are outlined in the Australian Eggs Strategic Plan 2021 - 2026.
- Marketing: Drive awareness and benefits of egg consumption through targeted advertising, promotion and education. Extending health and nutrition information to nutritionists, dietitians, doctors. Focus areas; consumer, Healthcare Professional Program (HCP) and next generation.
- Growth: Protecting consumers and industry through biosecurity and egg handling systems to ensure consistently safe eggs. Leadership on environmental management. Focus areas; food safety, environment and nutrition.
- Innovation: Identify solutions to enduring and emerging flock health problems. Develop nutrition and husbandry strategies to realise the genetic potential of hens. Facilitate improved welfare outcomes on-farm through knowledge and adoption. Focus areas; flock health, life and welfare.
- Engagement: Ensure activities reflect the priorities of egg farmers and government by providing ongoing engagement opportunities. Underpin sustainability and productivity by making knowledge and information available to egg farmers and the community. Realise efficiencies and opportunities by partnering with stakeholders on common issues. Focus areas; consultation, extension and collaboration.
